British Steel’s Teesside Beam Mill has successfully completed its GBP 1.4 mln (USD 1.8 mln) summer maintenance and improvement program.
David Hogg, Plant Manager for Northern Mills, announced that rolling has resumed, with the priority now on producing the high-quality construction steel that customers expect.
The tasks undertaken during the program included refractory repairs to the mill’s walking beam furnace, as well as realignment and internal renewals for the furnace discharge roller table, resulting in immediate improvements in availability.
British Steel’s Teesside Beam Mill manufactures large steel sections for the construction industry, with a production capacity of one mln tons per year. The feedstock for the Teesside Beam Mill is produced at British Steel’s integrated steelworks in Scunthorpe, with semi-finished steel transported to the Teesside plant primarily by rail.
