British Steel retains responsible sourcing certification

British Steel has maintained its certification under the BES 6001 Responsible Sourcing standard, following a comprehensive audit by the British Standards Institution (BSI), the company announced.

The certification covers all products manufactured at its Scunthorpe, Teesside, and Skinningrove sites. The audit assessed key areas such as material traceability, supply chain management, environmental systems, energy use, greenhouse gas emissions, and waste handling.

British Steel noted that the next audit in 2026 will be conducted against the updated BES 6001 v4.0 standard, which places greater emphasis on social responsibility, sustainable procurement, supply chain engagement, and environmental factors like biodiversity and site stewardship.
