CARES launches CBAM-focused emissions verification service for steel supply chain

CARES, internationally renowned certification authority, has introduced a new product verification service aimed at helping steel producers and supply chain participants comply with emerging carbon reporting requirements under the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM).

The service will provide independent verification of embedded emissions in steel products, ahead of certificate surrender obligations expected from 2027 under CBAM. Similar regulatory frameworks are also anticipated in the UK.

Drawing on more than four decades of experience in steel assurance, CARES said it is well positioned to support the transition through services spanning greenhouse gas data collection, third-party verification, and supply chain traceability.

The organization added that it has initiated the accreditation process with an EU national accreditation body, marking an expansion of its role as a certification and sustainability programme provider.
