Turkish steel producer, Cemtas Celik Makina Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. has unveiled plans to invest in a new 37 MWe land-based solar power plant across three sites in the Derik district of Mardin province, aiming to cut energy costs, lower its carbon footprint, and advance sustainability goals.
The company confirmed that Dicle Electricity Distribution Inc. has approved its application and issued a connection invitation. An EIA application has also been submitted to the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, with further approvals and an Investment Incentive Certificate from the Ministry of Industry and Technology to follow.
The project is scheduled to become operational in the fourth quarter of 2026. Once completed, together with existing solar investments, the company expects to meet nearly 100pct of its electricity consumption from renewable sources.
Founded in 1970, Cemtas specializes in producing a wide range of steel types, including bearing steel, free-cutting steel, lead steel, spring steel, and tool steel. The company operates a melt shop with an annual production capacity of 193,204 tons and a rolling mill capable of producing 207,360 tons annually.
