Colakoglu Metalurji A.S. has placed an order with ABB for an ArcSave electromagnetic stirrer (EMS) to be installed on one of the world’s largest electric arc furnaces (EAF). This project marks a significant step forward in Colakoglu’s commitment to improving efficiency, sustainability, and safety in steel production.
The ArcSave EMS will be installed on a jumbo 370-ton EAF, Turkey’s largest, located at Colakoglu’s steel plant. Supplied by Primetals Technologies, the furnace will undergo a revamp to integrate ABB’s advanced stirring technology. This upgrade aims to optimize the production of carbon steel products such as slabs, HRC, billets, and rebars.
The investment in ABB’s ArcSave EMS reflects Colakoglu’s pioneering approach to sustainable steel production. The technology enables rapid chemical and thermal homogenization within the furnace, helping the company achieve its sustainability targets while maintaining high operational efficiency.
