Turkey’s crude steel production increased by 5.3pct YoY to 9.74 mln tons in the first quarter of 2026, according to data from the Turkish Steel Producers’ Association.
Billet output declined by 1.6pct YoY to 5.74 mln tons, while slab production rose sharply by 17pct YoY to around 4 mln tons, highlighting a shift in the production mix.
Electric arc furnaces accounted for 72.2pct of total output during the period, with blast furnaces contributing the remaining 27.8pct.
In March alone, crude steel production increased by 6.4pct YoY to 3.3 mln tons. Billet output fell by 4.8pct YoY to 1.8 mln tons, while slab production climbed by 20pct YoY to 1.45 mln tons.
