Taiwan’s China Steel Corporation (CSC) has left domestic prices for all steel products unchanged for September 2026 deliveries, citing signs of stabilization in international steel markets despite continued uncertainty in the global economy.
CSC said the global economy remains mixed, with the US maintaining moderate growth while high energy costs continue to weigh on European manufacturing. In China, steel demand recovery remains slow amid weakness in the property sector and ongoing industrial restructuring, although Taiwan’s high-tech sector continues to support export growth.
The company said the steel market remains volatile due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Iron ore prices have stabilized in the USD 90-100 per ton range, while metallurgical coal prices remain elevated at around USD 210-220 per ton, keeping steelmaking costs relatively high.
CSC noted that steel prices in the US and Europe have remained firm, supported by trade protection measures, with US hot rolled coil prices exceeding USD 1,300 per ton and European HRC holding around USD 810 per ton. Meanwhile, Chinese steelmakers have continued to reduce production to improve profitability, helping tighten supply, while recent HRC price reductions by Vietnam’s Hoa Phat and Formosa Ha Tinh were smaller than previous cuts.
The company said international steel prices had rebounded earlier this year before correcting over the past two months, adding that the market now appears to have reached a bottom. As downstream inventories return to healthier levels, CSC expects steel buyers to gradually resume restocking and decided to maintain September prices unchanged to support customers during the current market adjustment.
