Eti Bakir, a Turkish metals and fertilizer producer, has awarded Metso an approximately EUR 55 mln (USD 64 mln) order for core process technology and equipment for the expansion of its Mazidagi integrated fertilizer and metal production site in Turkey.
The project aims to recover additional value from leach residue while reducing the environmental footprint of the site. Metso’s solution will convert the residue into valuable iron and slag products, supporting Eti Bakir’s objective of utilizing industrial side streams and developing the Mazidagi site as a zero-waste complex.
The delivery scope includes engineering, equipment supply and advisory services for an SL/RN Xtra rotary kiln pellet direct reduction process, integrated with a 30 MVA Metso Outotec DRI Smelting Furnace and a hot feeding system for DRI.
The solution combines thermal treatment and smelting technologies to recover iron from the leach residue, producing molten hot metal and slag products. The residue is first thermally treated in the rotary kiln before the resulting DRI is fed hot into the electric smelting furnace, where the iron-bearing material is smelted to produce liquid hot metal.
