Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) said the Al Ajban Solar PV Independent Power Project has installed its first solar panel, marking the start of the main construction phase.
The project is being developed under an IPP structure by Ajban PV3 Energy Company, with Masdar holding a 60pct stake, EDF Renewables 20pct, and Korea Western Power Company (KOWEPO) the remaining 20pct. The EPC contract was awarded to PowerChina Huadong Engineering Corporation.
With a planned capacity of 1.5 gigawatts, the Al Ajban Solar PV plant is set to become one of the world’s largest single-site solar projects and will deploy around 3 mln solar panels, EWEC said.
