French firm secures key contracts for Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed rail project

French construction firm Colas has secured three contracts worth a total of EUR430 mln (USD 444 mln) to expand Morocco’s high-speed rail network between Kenitra and Marrakech, the company announced.

Awarded by Morocco’s national railway operator ONCF, the contracts will be executed through Colas’ subsidiaries, GTR (Les Grands Travaux Routiers) and Colas Rail. GTR will handle Lot 3 of civil engineering works, valued at nearly EUR 180 mln (USD 186 mln), covering 40 km of earthworks, standard engineering, and five bridges, with completion expected by late 2027.

Colas Rail will oversee track design and construction, catenary systems, and substations under a EUR 200 mln (USD 206 mln) contract. Additionally, it will manage Lot 1 of superstructure and civil works on active tracks, worth EUR 50 mln (USD 52 mln). In partnership with SETEC, Colas Rail’s scope includes a 346 km single-track high-speed section and a 112 km single-track regional segment, set for completion in 2028.

This project extends the LGV Nord line from Tangiers to Kenitra, advancing Morocco’s high-speed rail ambitions ahead of the 2030 World Cup.
