Gasunie awards framework contracts to EU pipe producers for energy infrastructure

Dutch state-owned energy infrastructure company Gasunie has awarded multi-year framework agreements to six European pipe manufacturers following a joint tender by its Dutch and German subsidiaries for the supply of onshore pipelines for hydrogen, natural gas, and carbon infrastructure.

The framework contracts were signed with Cimolai, Corinth Pipeworks, Mannesmann Grossrohr, Europipe, Mannesmann Line Pipe, and EEW. Each agreement runs for four years, with options for two additional two-year extensions, allowing for a maximum contract duration of eight years.

The contracts are divided into three lots based on pipeline length and diameter, with total contract value capped at EUR 2.5 bln (USD 2.93 bln), including a EUR 1 bln (USD 1.17 bln) option earmarked for CO2 transport pipelines.

Gasunie said the awards were based on the best price-quality ratio, with sustainability playing a central role throughout the tender process and contract duration. Suppliers are required to deliver materials with a reduced carbon footprint, including steel produced via lower-emission routes such as scrap-based production, which can cut CO2 emissions by more than 80pct compared with conventional methods.

The framework agreements will support pipeline material procurement for several major projects, including the northern section of the Dutch hydrogen network, the Delta Rhine Corridor, and multiple infrastructure developments in Germany. The structure allows Gasunie to procure materials through flexible call-off tenders as projects progress, ensuring timely delivery for the rollout of new cross-border energy infrastructure.
