Global stainless steel production reached 48 mln tons in January-September 2025, up 3pct YoY, according to the World Stainless Association (Worldstainless). Output in Q3 rose 2.3pct YoY to 16.1 mln tons.
China remained the leading producer, with output rising 4.7pct YoY to 30.45 mln tons in the first nine months of 2025. In Q3 alone, Chinese stainless steel production increased 3.9pct YoY to 10.28 mln tons.
Across Asia excluding China, production grew 1.1pct YoY to 10.77 mln tons in January-September and rose 3.9pct YoY in Q3 to 3.7 mln tons.
Europe (excluding Russia and Ukraine) saw a 4.2pct decline, producing 4.49 mln tons in the first nine months. Q3 production fell sharply by 11.3pct YoY to 1.337 mln tons.
In the United States, stainless steel output increased 9.3pct YoY to 1.64 mln tons in January-September. Q3 production rose 11.6pct YoY to 538,000 tons.
In the “Others” group-Brazil, Russia, South Africa, and Ukraine-output dropped 5.7pct YoY to 649,000 tons in the first nine months and decreased 20.1pct YoY in Q3 to 201,000 tons.
