Spanish steel processing company Gonvarri Steel Industries is exploring investment opportunities in Egypt, with potential projects spanning the automotive, renewable energy and steel structures sectors, the Egyptian government said.
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held talks with Gonvarri Steel Industries Chairman Jon Riberas on the company’s potential investments and the possibility of establishing Egypt as a regional hub for its operations in the Middle East and Africa.
The discussions included the potential establishment of a major factory to produce automotive and vehicle components, supporting Egypt’s efforts to localize automotive manufacturing and deepen domestic industrial production.
Gonvarri is also considering opportunities in renewable energy, particularly solar and wind power, as well as electricity transmission towers, storage, warehousing and logistics.
Riberas said the company is studying several investment models, including partnerships with local investors and industrial partners. He highlighted Egypt’s geographical position and its potential to serve markets across the Middle East and Africa, as well as its role in supporting distribution and access to other regional markets.
Gonvarri Industries is a Spain-based multinational industrial group founded in 1958 and headquartered in Madrid, specializing in steel processing and metal transformation. The privately held company operates 56 production facilities across 27 countries and processes around 5 mln tons of steel annually, serving the automotive, solar energy, industrial, material-handling and infrastructure sectors.
