Govt extends anti-dumping duties on Chinese corrosion-resistant steel imports

The UK government has accepted the Trade Remedies Authority’s (TRA) recommendation to extend anti-dumping duties on corrosion-resistant steel imports from China for another five years, the regulator announced.

The measure, originally imposed by the EU in 2018, will remain in place until at least February 9, 2028, with duties ranging from 17.2pct to 27.9pct. The TRA’s review, launched in February 2023, concluded that lifting the duties would likely lead to renewed dumping and harm UK industry.

Corrosion-resistant steel includes flat-rolled iron, alloy, or non-alloy steel that is aluminium-killed and coated through hot-dip galvanization with zinc, aluminium, or magnesium.

Since the EU’s initial duty imposition, UK imports of Chinese corrosion-resistant steel have dropped by 96pct, from 363,000 tons in 2016 to 16,000 tons in 2018.
