Hafeet Rail receives first rail shipment from ArcelorMittal

Hafeet Rail has received its first shipment of railway tracks for the Oman-UAE Railway Network, marking a key milestone in the project’s progress. The delivery, handled via the General Cargo Terminal at Sohar Port and Freezone and operated by C. Steinweg Oman LLC, included over 3,800 pieces of E260 rail steel, each 25 meters long and weighing a total of 5,700 tons.

Produced at ArcelorMittal’s Gijon facility in Spain, the tracks meet the highest international rail transport standards and form part of a larger 33,100-ton supply package. Designed to withstand freight and passenger loads of up to 32.4 tons per axle, the rails feature advanced fastening systems with high-strength clips and bolts to ensure stability, durability, and long-term reliability under demanding operating conditions.

The arrival of this shipment enables the project to begin track-laying works while preparing for additional rail steel deliveries in the coming months. Once completed, the 238-kilometer railway will connect Sohar Port to the UAE’s national network, improving regional connectivity and strengthening cross-border supply chains.

Hafeet Rail, jointly developed by Asyad Group, Etihad Rail, and Mubadala, sees the project as a cornerstone of sustainable transport infrastructure, boosting logistics efficiency, cross-border trade, and economic integration between Oman and the UAE.
