HBIS Tangsteel commissions world’s largest push-pull pickling line at Laoting plant

HBIS Tangsteel has commissioned the world’s largest push-pull pickling line (PPPL) at its Laoting steel plant in Hebei province, with Primetals Technologies receiving the provisional acceptance certificate (PAC) for the project.

The new line processes strip thicknesses of 1.8-15 mm at speeds up to 200 meters per minute, achieving a wide product mix typically requiring two conventional continuous pickling lines. Supplied by Primetals, the facility includes full mechanical, electrical, and automation scope, along with engineering and advisory services.

Advanced process optimization and state-of-the-art control technology ensure high winding quality for coils over 12 mm, with consistent strip tension, improved edge guidance, and reduced rejects, critical for demanding automotive, construction, and mechanical engineering applications. The PPPL also features Level 2 automation with a sophisticated software model for precise process management, enhancing throughput, energy efficiency, and reducing pickling fluid use.

Additional equipment includes an in-line 4-high single-stand skin-pass mill for flatness control and a turret-head side trimmer for strip thicknesses of 2-8 mm.

HBIS Tangsteel, one of China’s largest state-owned steel producers, manufactures hot-rolled and cold-rolled sheet, galvanized sheet, plate, bar, wire, and section products.
