China’s Henan Jiyuan Iron & Steel (Group) has awarded Danieli a contract to supply a new 55-ton ECS Zerobucket electric arc furnace (EAF), marking the company’s first EAF installation and a key step in its transition toward lower-carbon steel production.
The project will support Henan Jiyuan’s shift from the traditional blast furnace-basic oxygen furnace route to a more sustainable steelmaking process while strengthening its special steel production capabilities.
The ECS Zerobucket EAF will incorporate Danieli’s continuous scrap-charging system and scrap preheating technology, enabling improved energy efficiency through heat recovery from off-gases. The furnace will also feature advanced automation and process control systems designed to optimize melting operations and reduce power consumption.
According to Danieli, the technology offers lower electricity usage, reduced carbon emissions, and lower emissions of harmful gases compared with conventional bucket-charging EAFs.
