Hoa Phat advances rooftop solar project to boost energy self-sufficiency

Hoa Phat Dung Quat Steel Joint Stock Company, in partnership with Horus Power (HRP), has commenced phase 2 of its rooftop solar power project as part of efforts to increase clean energy use and reduce production costs.

The overall project, with a total investment of nearly VND 600 bln, will be developed in five phases with a combined capacity of 79.2 MWp, targeted for completion by Q2 2027. Once fully operational, the system is expected to generate over 115 mln kWh of electricity annually, reducing CO2 emissions by more than 78,000 tons per year.

Phase 2 involves the installation of 22.5 MWp capacity, following the completion of phase 1 (5 MWp) in November 2025. The second phase alone is expected to produce around 32.8 mln kWh annually, further increasing the share of renewable energy in the company’s operations.

The solar panels are being installed across multiple facilities, including rolling mills, the HRC plant, warehouses and water treatment infrastructure within the complex.

The project uses N-type TOPCon solar panels and high-efficiency inverters to optimize power generation and ensure stable supply for production. Phase 2 is also expected to reduce COâ‚‚ emissions by more than 22,000 tons annually.

Hoa Phat said the initiative supports its broader strategy to enhance energy self-sufficiency and sustainability, particularly in the context of tightening environmental requirements in export markets such as the EU.

Hoa Phat Group is currently the largest steel producer in Southeast Asia and expects to reach a total capacity of 16 mln tons per year by end-2026, with the Dung Quat complex accounting for around 12 mln tons.
