Vietnam’s leading steelmaker Hoa Phat Group produced more than 3.6 mln tons of crude steel in the second quarter of 2026, up 48pct YoY and 9pct from the previous quarter, driven by higher output across its integrated steel operations.
Combined sales of construction steel, HRC and billets reached 3.5 mln tons during the quarter, increasing 35pct compared with the same period last year.
Sales of construction steel and high-quality steel totaled 1.3 mln tons, up 2pct YoY but down 9pct from the first quarter. The company said it maintained its leading position in Vietnam’s construction steel market with a 36pct market share and exports to more than 45 countries and territories.
HRC sales reached 1.9 mln tons in the second quarter, rising 64pct YoY and 31pct quarter-on-quarter. Domestic sales accounted for around 80pct of total HRC shipments, while the remainder was exported to more than 20 countries and territories across Asia, Europe, the Americas and Africa. The company said it continues to expand production of high-grade HRC for the oil and gas and engineering sectors, including J55, J55-UP, X52, X70, HSLA 55 and S700MC grades.
During the quarter, Hoa Phat also sold 212,000 tons of steel pipe, 83,000 tons of galvanized steel sheet and more than 65,000 tons of prestressed steel and wire rod, with the latter increasing 59pct YoY.
In the first half of 2026, the group produced nearly 7 mln tons of crude steel, up 36pct YoY. Combined sales of HRC, construction steel, high-quality steel and billets rose 32pct to 6.5 mln tons, while HRC sales increased 57pct to nearly 3.4 mln tons.
Hoa Phat said it is currently the only Vietnamese producer of HRC and is continuing to expand its value-added steel portfolio. The company is also developing a rail and special steel plant at Dung Quat, with commercial rail steel production expected to begin in the second quarter of 2027.
