Vietnam’s Hoa Phat Group has commissioned a new basic oxygen furnace (BOF) and RH vacuum refining furnace at its Dung Quat 2 Iron and Steel Complex, marking a key milestone toward launching Blast Furnace No. 2 and completing the project by September 2025.
Supplied by Germany’s SMS Group, the 300-ton BOF can produce 9,000 tons of liquid steel per day with low impurities, while the RH furnace enhances refining quality. The Dung Quat 2 blast furnace has a volume of 2,500 m3, double that of Dung Quat 1, featuring lower energy use and higher environmental standards, including reduced CO2 emissions.
Dung Quat 2 will produce high-end HRC for industries such as automotive, petrochemicals, household appliances, and food processing. Upon completion, Hoa Phat’s annual steel output will reach 16 mln tons, including 9 mln tons of HRC, the company added.
