Hybar, LLC has produced its first rebar at its newly built steel mini mill in Osceola, Arkansas, just 22 months after breaking ground on the 1,300-acre greenfield site. The initial rebar was made using purchased billets.
In the coming weeks, Hybar will begin commissioning its 105-ton DC electric arc furnace and continuous caster, alongside finalizing its rolling mill and solar and battery storage facility. SMS group GmbH supplied the mill’s EAF, caster, rolling mill, and water treatment systems, while DEPCOM Power, Inc. delivered the solar and battery infrastructure.
Hybar plans to produce over 700,000 tons of rebar annually, including spooled rebar up to eight tons. The company aims to become North America’s only steel producer capable of operating on 100pct renewable energy, when solar conditions allow, via its behind-the-meter solar and battery system. A special-rate power contract with Entergy Arkansas will provide supplemental electricity as needed. Primetals Technologies USA supplied the onsite substation and power distribution.
