Hyundai Steel has begun joint development of next-generation building-integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) modules through an industry-academia collaboration with Hanwha Solutions, Lotte Construction, Samhwa Paints, Epscore, and Korea University.
The project aims to support Korea’s carbon neutrality roadmap and the phased adoption of Zero Energy Buildings, which will become mandatory for all new construction by 2050. Unlike traditional glass-based solar modules, steel-based BIPV modules are expected to deliver greater durability and heat conductivity, improving generation efficiency and integration into building systems.
Under the agreement, Hyundai Steel and Samhwa Paints will co-develop new materials, Epscore will lead product development, Hanwha Solutions and Lotte Construction will provide expertise in renewable energy and building systems, and Korea University will offer academic and technical support.
