JFE Steel orders new continuous galvanizing line for Fukuyama plant

JFE Steel Corporation has ordered a new continuous galvanizing line (CGL) from Primetals Technologies for its West Japan Works in Fukuyama. Equipped with alloying capabilities, the line will help meet growing demand for ultra-high-tensile automotive steel, key to building lighter, safer, and more fuel-efficient vehicles.

Primetals Technologies will design and manufacture all mechanical equipment and provide advisory support during installation and commissioning. The scope includes entry and exit sections, the annealing and alloying furnaces, a skin-pass mill, side trimmer, and loopers. The line is scheduled to start operations in October 2028.

The new CGL will strengthen JFE Steel’s ability to supply advanced high-strength steel grades required to meet tightening environmental standards and enhanced crash-safety requirements.

JFE Steel is one of Japan’s leading integrated steel producers, manufacturing everything from raw materials to finished products.
