JFE Steel has chosen Danieli as its technology partner to support its green transformation and greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction strategy. As part of the plan, Danieli will supply a new digitally controlled electric arc furnace (EAF) and secondary refining stations for installation at JFE’s West Japan Works in Kurashiki.
The project will feature one of the world’s largest EAFs by tapping capacity, forming part of a cutting-edge Digimeltshop setup. This includes a Digimelter, Zerobucket EAF, and Digirefiner, all equipped with the advanced Q-One power supply system to produce high-quality molten steel.
Q-One enhances operational efficiency by reducing power and electrode consumption, limiting strain on the power grid, and offering flexible, redundant control over current, voltage, and frequency. The system brings clear advantages in sustainability, performance, and operating costs. Additional technologies, such as Q-Stap, Q-Strop, Q-EBT Sand, Q-Slag, and the Thor 3K self-cleaning slag door, will reduce downtime and improve safety in the EAF area. A dedicated fume-suction line will ensure effective dust collection, further supporting environmental performance.
The new facilities are scheduled to begin operations in the first quarter of 2028.
