Jindal Steel partners with Sohar University to establish skills training centre

Jindal Steel Oman has signed an agreement with Sohar University to establish the Jindal Skill Training Centre, aimed at equipping Omani youth with industry-relevant skills for advanced manufacturing and technology.

The centre will focus on practical industrial training, including advanced manufacturing and automation, combining Sohar University’s academic expertise with Jindal Steel’s industrial experience.

The initiative is intended to support workforce development and Omanisation in technical leadership roles across Jindal Steel and related manufacturing companies, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

Jindal Steel said the centre forms part of its broader efforts to develop local skills and strengthen Oman’s industrial capabilities by preparing young people for future manufacturing and technology requirements.

Jindal Steel Oman, part of India’s Jindal Group, is one of the GCC’s largest integrated steel producers. The group operates Jindal Steel Sohar, which has annual production capacity of 2.0 mln tons of gas-based DRI, 2.4 mln tons of crude steel through EAF and ladle furnace facilities, and 1.4 mln tons of rebar.

The company’s long steel business expanded in 2023 through the acquisition of Sohar Steel, adding 700,000 tons per year of long products capacity. More recently, it acquired Moon Iron and Steel Company (MISCO), increasing its annual rebar production capacity by a further 1.1 mln tons.
