Jotun launches fire-protection coating to enhance steel safety and sustainability

Jotun has introduced Jotachar 1709XT, a new passive fire-protection coating designed to improve the durability and safety of steel infrastructure, at ADIPEC 2025 in Abu Dhabi. Developed through a multi-year R&D and certification program and manufactured in Oman, the coating offers enhanced mechanical strength, faster application, and reliable performance under high-temperature conditions.

Certified to UL 1709 hydrocarbon fire standards, Jotachar 1709XT helps prevent structural collapse during fire exposure and supports longer asset lifespans, reducing emissions associated with steel replacement and maintenance.

Jotun’s Oman production facility, with an annual capacity of 2.4 mln litres, allows faster delivery across the Gulf region, improving supply efficiency. The company also provides technical and fire engineering support, including certified applicator programs and inspection guidance.

Founded in 1926 in Norway, Jotun operates in over 100 countries and supplies protective coatings for major energy and industrial projects, including those of Saudi Aramco and Adnoc.
