JSW JFE advances grain-oriented electrical steel project in Nashik

JSW JFE Electrical Steel Pvt. Ltd. is advancing its grain-oriented electrical steel production project in Nashik, India, with technology supplied by Italian engineering company Tenova, which is providing three processing lines under a contract awarded in 2025.

The project covers annealing and pickling, flattening and coating, and decarburizing and coating lines for producing high-quality grain-oriented electrical steel (GOES). The material is used in power transformers and electricity transmission networks, where its magnetic properties help reduce energy losses.

The new facilities are intended to support domestic production of high-efficiency electrical steel and meet growing demand from India’s power and transformer industries.

JSW JFE Electrical Steel is a 50:50 joint venture between JSW Steel and Japan’s JFE Steel Corporation. In 2024, the company agreed to acquire Thyssenkrupp Electrical Steel India’s Nashik plant, which has an electrical steel production capacity of 50,000 tons per year. JSW JFE plans to increase its grain-oriented electrical steel capacity fivefold to 250,000 tons per year, with manufacturing and sales targeted to begin in India by 2027.
