JSW Steel’s crude steel output dips slightly in February

JSW Steel reported a 2pct YoY decline in consolidated crude steel production to 2.366 mln tons in February 2026, according to a stock exchange filing.

Production at the company’s Indian operations edged down to 2.306 mln tons, compared with 2.332 mln tons a year earlier. Capacity utilization stood at around 97pct excluding Blast Furnace-3 (BF3) and 88pct including BF3 during the month.

The company said output was slightly lower due to the ongoing capacity expansion and modernization shutdown of BF3 at its Vijayanagar Steel Plant, which has been offline since September 2025. The furnace is expected to restart by the end of Q4 FY26.

However, JSW Steel noted that excluding BF3 output from the comparison base, production would have shown around 8pct YoY growth, supported by the full ramp-up of operations at JSW Vijayanagar Metallics Ltd (JVML).

In the United States, production at the company’s Ohio operations fell 20pct YoY to 60,000 tons, reflecting the ramp-up of operations following caster upgrades completed in January 2026 and disruptions caused by severe winter storms.

JSW Steel currently has a consolidated crude steel capacity of 35.7 mln tons per year, including 1.5 mln tons in the U.S., with plans to expand capacity to 43.4 mln tons within three years.
