JSW Steel announced that its consolidated crude steel production increased by 2.3pct to 7.03 mln tons in the third quarter of the current fiscal year. This is up from 6.87 mln tons in the same period last year, according to the company’s filing with the stock exchange.

The crude steel production from the company’s Indian operations rose by 3pct to 6.82 mln tons, compared to 6.63 mln tons in the previous year. Capacity utilization at the Indian operations, excluding trial runs, stood at 91pct for the third quarter.

The company noted that production and capacity utilization during the quarter were impacted by temporary maintenance at one of the blast furnaces at Dolvi, which resumed normal operations in the first week of November.

JSW Steel, a major player in the integrated steel industry, boasts a total capacity of 29.7 mln tons per annum in India and the USA. The company aims for further expansion, targeting a total capacity of 38.5 mln tons per annum in India by FY25 as part of its next growth phase.
