Kardemir announces investment to upgrade rolling mill

Turkish steel producer Kardemir has announced an investment to expand its production capacity for value-added steel products and boost competitiveness, according to a stock exchange filing.

The company plans to install a new sizing block at its bar and wire rod mill, which was established in 2016 with an annual capacity of 700,000 tons. This upgrade will enhance the dimensional accuracy of finished products during rolling and improve production precision and quality standards.

Kardemir’s bar and wire rod mill currently produces wire rod ranging from 5.5 to 25 mm and 20 to 56 mm, as well as high-quality round bars from 20 to 100 mm, in addition to rebar.

The sizing block investment aims to support export growth and reduce foreign dependency by producing import-substitute products. Kardemir also expects to increase output of value-added products and enhance competitiveness in international markets, while achieving significant energy savings and improving environmental sustainability.

Founded in 1937, Kardemir is a major steel player in Turkey with a production capacity of 3.5 mln tons per year. The company’s product portfolio includes blooms, billets, rebars, profiles, and various other steel products, with manufacturing facilities strategically located in Karabuk.
