Kardemir awards contract for modernization of coal injection and sintering projects

Turkish steelmaker Kardemir has awarded Sinosteel Equipment a contract to build a 2×30 t/h coal injection plant under the EPS model. The project will include a dry coal shed, pulverizing system, and injection system, supplying blast furnaces 1, 4, and 5. Once completed, it is expected to raise the blast furnace coal ratio to 180 kg per ton of hot metal.

At the same time, the companies signed a deal to upgrade the sintering plant’s primary mixer, replacing the existing cylindrical unit with a high-pressure mixer to improve mixing efficiency and enhance sinter quality.

The coal injection project will feature Sinosteel’s intelligent injection system, equipped with high-precision ceramic regulating valves and algorithm-based safety controls to automate loading, injection, pressure relief, and tank emptying, while ensuring stable pulverized coal delivery.

Established in 1937, Kardemir is a key player in Turkey’s steel industry, with a 3.5 mln tons annual production capacity. The company manufactures billets, blooms, rebars, and profiles at its Karabuk-based facilities.
