Kardemir Celik to commission new large-section rolling mill in Izmir

Kardemir Celik is investing USD 30 mln in a large-section rolling mill in Izmir’s Aliaga Bozkoy district, aiming to boost production capacity, diversify its product range, and tap new markets. The facility is scheduled to be commissioned in Q2 2026.

Board member Ozlem Bakirel said growing global demand for large steel profiles is driving the investment. The new line will produce 200 mm UPN, IPN, and IPE profiles, as well as larger sections by late 2025, and special profiles for solar power plants, mining, and shipbuilding.

The company targets a 10pct increase in billet output in 2025, reaching 1.2 mln tons in 2026, with a long-term goal of 2.5 mln tons of total production capacity across all sites.

Kardemir Celik expects the new products, positioned in higher market segments, to lift overall turnover by about 10pct, with profit contribution potentially reaching 25pct.

The company currently operates seven production facilities in Turkey, producing billet, rebar, wire rod, and profiles with a combined annual capacity of over 2.5 mln tons.
