Primetals Technologies has secured an order from Karabuk Demir Celik Sanayi ve Ticaret A.S. (Kardemir) to upgrade process optimization systems at its sinter plants in Karabuk, Turkey. The project includes upgrading Level 2 systems at plants No. 1 and 2, and installing a new sinter optimizer system at plant No. 3.
The solution will digitalize Kardemir’s sinter production through real-time data collection, automated analysis, and AI-driven process control. All three plants will operate in closed-loop mode using a digital knowledge base, improving efficiency, stabilizing production, and enhancing transparency.
A key element is the integration of Level 2 systems with Kardemir’s SAP infrastructure, enabling real-time insights for faster decision-making and cost optimization. The Sinter Optimizer’s expert system predicts product quality in advance, calculates raw material setpoints, and ensures consistent output through multiple control loops.
Founded in 1937, Kardemir is one of Turkey’s largest steel producers, with a capacity of 3.5 mln tons annually, producing billets, blooms, rebars, wire rods, and profiles.
