Kirloskar Ferrous Industries Limited (KFIL), a leading Indian producer of castings and pig iron, has been declared the preferred bidder for the Jambunatha iron ore mine in Karnataka following an e-auction held on January 27, 2025.
The final mining lease award is subject to several conditions, including required payments, compliance with tender terms, and obtaining approvals, permissions, and clearances from various government authorities. KFIL will also need to execute relevant agreements and legal documents related to the lease.
The Jambunatha mine has a design capacity of 160,000 tons per annum and estimated reserves of 2.8 mln tons, with an average iron content of 62.14pct Fe, according to Global Energy Monitor.
KFIL supplies pig iron and grey iron castings to multiple industries, including automotive engines and compressors, textiles, pumps, pipes and fittings, and fans.
