Turkish steel producer Kocaer Celik announced progress on its green steel mill and profile plant project, a key part of its 2030 vision. In a stock exchange filing, the company said feasibility studies are ongoing, the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) application has been submitted, and permitting procedures are in progress.
Drilling work is also underway for the Kocaer Geothermal Power Plant 1, alongside the EIA process for the new project site.
Unveiled in November 2024, Kocaer’s 2030 vision aims to boost steel capacity and expand into value-added grades to reduce imports. Plans include investing in a fourth steel profile plant with a capacity of 500,000 tons per year and a 1 mln ton per year melting plant in Izmir. The facilities will run on renewable energy, with geothermal and solar plants meeting the power needs of the new profile factory and melt shop.
Currently, Kocaer operates three steel profile factories with a combined annual capacity of 800,000 tons, a 100,000-ton galvanizing plant, and a 180,000-ton service center in Turkey.
