Maghreb Steel has upgraded its hot-strip mill in Casablanca with a new upcoiler mandrel supplied by Danieli Service, designed to match the original equipment’s dimensions and kinematics.
Using advanced 3D scanning technology tailored for the metals industry, Danieli Service conducted an on-site technical survey, eliminating the need for international logistics and minimizing downtime. The high-precision scan detected a 4-mm deformation in the 5-meter-long shaft, an accuracy unachievable through manual methods.
The detailed scan data enabled Danieli’s engineering team to reverse-engineer the mandrel, restoring its original geometry while enhancing durability and performance using the latest technology, all without altering the plant’s existing automation or hydraulic systems.
Maghreb Steel, the country’s sole flat steel producer with an annual capacity of 1 mln tons, produces hot rolled, cold rolled, galvanized and prepainted coils and sheets.
