Marcegaglia Stainless Sheffield has completed a further phase of its major melt shop modernization project with the installation of water-cooled ducting on its electric arc furnace (EAF).
The works, carried out by Primetals Technologies, included the delivery and installation of locally manufactured interconnecting pipework produced at the company’s Scunthorpe workshop. The installation marks the final stage of the EAF dedusting system upgrade, a key component of the broader enhancement programme.
The upgrade is designed to improve operational efficiency, environmental performance and overall productivity at the Sheffield site. The full modernization project remains on schedule for completion in the second half of 2026.
Marcegaglia Stainless Sheffield is the primary steel production hub of the Italian Marcegaglia Group, following its acquisition of Outokumpu’s long products division in January 2023. The company operates three sites in Sheffield covering the full stainless steel production cycle, including an EAF melt shop producing semi-finished products, a rolling mill for wire rod, bar and rebar, and a finishing facility for high-quality stainless steel bars.
