Mawarid Alkhaleej Company to launch major rebar mill project in Baghdad

Pomini Long Rolling Mills has signed a contract with Mawarid Alkhaleej Company to supply equipment and services for a new rebar rolling mill in Baghdad, Iraq. The company had previously conducted the feasibility study and completed pre-engineering for the project.

The main supply includes a billet re-heating furnace with a capacity of 120 tons per hour, a rolling train with nineteen Red Ring Series 5 stands, an EVO-POMINI inline quenching and tempering system, a cooling bed, hot and cold cutting devices, a bundle formation area with a digital bar counting system, and a finished product discharge unit.

Designed to produce up to 670,000 tons annually, the mill will roll rebars up to 50 mm in diameter, including 4-slit rolling for 8-12 mm bars and 2-slit for 14-18 mm, along with plain rounds from 20-50 mm. The facility is also designed to accommodate future expansion, including the ERT-EBROS billet welding technology and the production of merchant bars such as hexagons, squares, flats, angles, and channels.

The scope also covers electrics and automation, including main and auxiliary drives, motors, and Level 1 automation. Pomini will provide technical training, as well as advisory services for erection and commissioning. Fluid systems, operational components, and spare parts are included in the package. Startup is scheduled for the first half of 2027.
