Meranti Green Steel has selected Italy-based Bedeschi to supply material handling systems for its planned direct reduced iron (DRI) and hot briquetted iron (HBI) plant in Duqm, Oman.
Under the contract, Bedeschi will design and deliver systems for handling iron ore pellets into the plant and transporting finished green HBI products to export facilities at the port.
Meranti said the appointment represents another step in the development of the project as it progresses toward a final investment decision (FID). The company added that efficient material handling infrastructure will play a key role in supporting plant operations, project execution and logistics efficiency.
Bedeschi is a leading supplier of material handling solutions for the steel and iron ore industries, with experience in direct reduction projects and bulk materials logistics worldwide.
Meranti Green Steel is building of a 2.5 mln tons per annum HBI plant in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD), with commissioning targeted for mid-2029. The company has indicated plans for a potential second HBI module, which would double the total capacity to 5 mln tons per annum.
