Meranti Green Steel has appointed Larsen & Toubro (L&T) as the project delivery partner for the front-end engineering and design (FEED) phase of its planned 2.5 mln tons per annum direct reduced iron (DRI)/hot briquetted iron (HBI) plant in Duqm, Oman.
The company said L&T was selected following a competitive bidding process and will be responsible for developing the detailed engineering, plant layout, cost estimates and project schedule during the FEED stage ahead of construction.
Meranti said completion of the FEED work represents another key milestone toward the project’s Final Investment Decision (FID) and is expected to help optimize the design and reduce execution risks before construction begins.
Meranti Green Steel is building of a 2.5 mln tons per annum HBI plant in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD), with commissioning targeted for mid-2029. The company has indicated plans for a potential second HBI module, which would double the total capacity to 5 mln tons per annum.
