Meranti Green Steel has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Muscat University to strengthen cooperation between industry and academia in Oman, with a focus on student placements, industry-linked projects, supply chain and logistics.
The agreement also establishes links with the university’s UNESCO Chair and its research centre for new energy, supporting collaboration in research and industry-relevant education.
Meranti Green Steel CEO Dr Sebastian Langendorf signed the MoU with Muscat University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Dr Chiraz Zidi. They were joined by CM Verma, Meranti Green Steel’s GM Oman and vice president of global partnerships, and Muhammad Zahid, professor and dean of the Faculty of Transport and Logistics.
The company said the partnership represents another step in its efforts to support steel decarbonization through collaboration.
Meranti Green Steel is developing a 2.5 mln tons per year DRI/(HBI) plant in the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (SEZAD), with commissioning targeted for mid-2029. The company has also outlined plans for a second HBI module that would double total production capacity to 5 mln tons per year.
