Meranti Green Steel Oman has signed a memorandum of understanding with Amnah Energy to explore cooperation on the supply of green hydrogen for its proposed 2.5 mln tons per annum green HBI project in Duqm. Amnah Energy is a consortium comprising Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners’ Energy Transition Fund (CIP), Blue Power Partners, and Al Khadra (Hind Bahwan Group).
The collaboration aims to align green hydrogen supply with Oman’s Energy Transition Plan and support the country’s ambition to develop large-scale, competitive hydrogen production. By linking renewable hydrogen generation with long-term industrial offtake, the initiative seeks to address the challenge of developing supply and demand in parallel, while supporting Meranti’s goal of producing cost-competitive, low-carbon HBI for global markets.
Under the MoU, the two parties will jointly assess a hydrogen supply and offtake solution, matching Meranti’s requirements with hydrogen produced from Amnah’s wind, solar, and electrolyzer assets. The cooperation will be aligned with Oman’s hydrogen infrastructure framework and coordinated with relevant national authorities.
Meranti said the partnership represents a step forward in advancing its phased decarbonization strategy, while Amnah noted that the collaboration supports Oman’s vision of integrating renewable resources with industrial decarbonization and building a scalable green hydrogen value chain.
