US specialty steel producer Metallus has secured a five-year contract with the US Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) to supply steel for critical defense applications, with an initial delivery order valued at USD 125 mln.
The indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract has a maximum value of USD 995 mln, although this represents the ceiling for potential orders rather than a guaranteed purchase commitment. The DLA will issue delivery orders during the five-year contract period, with Metallus allowed up to 24 months to fulfil each order.
The company said the award supports its expansion in the defense market, where demand is growing for domestically sourced specialty steel meeting stringent performance, quality and traceability requirements. Metallus will supply steel produced entirely in the US.
Metallus manufactures high-performance specialty metals for demanding applications in the industrial, automotive, aerospace and defense, and energy sectors. The company is a major US producer of alloy steel bars up to 16 inches in diameter, seamless mechanical tubing and manufactured components.
