Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and Ministry of Finance (MOF) have launched an anti-dumping investigation into hot-dipped galvanized steel coil, sheet, and strip imports from China and South Korea, according to a joint press release.
The probe follows an April 28, 2025, application by Nippon Steel, Kobe Steel, and Yodogawa Steel, seeking anti-dumping duties on these imports. After reviewing the request under WTO agreements and domestic laws, the ministries concluded there was sufficient evidence to proceed.
The investigation, expected to conclude within one year, comes amid a notable rise in imports. Between April 2021 and September 2024, shipments from South Korea increased from 203,768 tons to 358,093 tons, while those from China rose from 240,711 tons to 304,657 tons.
