Crude steel production in the Middle East rose 2pct YoY to 40 mln tons in the first nine months of 2025, according to the World Steel Association. In September, the region’s output increased 9.3pct YoY to 4.6 mln tons. The figures include Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Yemen.
In Africa, crude steel production grew 4.2pct YoY to 17.3 mln tons during January-September. In September, output rose 8.2pct YoY to 2 mln tons, covering Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, and South Africa.
Turkey, the world’s seventh-largest producer, recorded output of 28.1 mln tons, up 0.6pct YoY in the first nine months. September production increased 3.3pct to 3.2 mln tons.
Iran, ranked tenth globally, saw crude steel production fall 2.7pct YoY to 22.1 mln tons in January-September. However, its September output rose 6pct YoY to 2.3 mln tons.
On a global scale, crude steel production declined 1.6pct YoY to 1.37 bln tons in the first nine months of 2025. September output also dropped 1.6pct to 141.8 mln tons.
China, the world’s largest producer, recorded a 2.9pct decrease to 746.3 mln tons in January-September, with September output down 4.6pct to 73.5 mln tons.
India maintained strong growth, producing 122.4 mln tons in the first nine months, up 10.5pct YoY, while September production jumped 13.2pct to 13.6 mln tons.
In the United States, steel output rose 2.1pct YoY to 61.4 mln tons in January-September. September output increased 6.7pct to 6.9 mln tons.
Japan’s crude steel production declined 4.5pct YoY to 60.5 mln tons in the first nine months, with September output falling 3.7pct to 6.4 mln tons.
