Crude steel production in the Middle East rose 12.6pct YoY to 12.6 mln tons in January 2026, according to data from the World Steel Association. The regional total includes output from Bahrain, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Yemen.
In Africa, crude steel production increased 5.8pct YoY to 2 mln tons, with output reported from producers including Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, South Africa, Tunisia.
Turkey, the world’s seventh-largest steel producer, recorded crude steel output of 3.4 mln tons in January, up 5.8pct YoY. Iran, ranked tenth globally, posted stronger growth, with production rising 15.1pct YoY to 2.6 mln tons.
At the global level, crude steel production fell 6.5pct YoY to 147.3 mln tons in January 2026. Output in China declined by nearly 14pct to 75.3 mln tons, while India produced 15.1 mln tons, up 10.5pct YoY. In the United States, crude steel production rose 3.3pct YoY to 7.1 mln tons.
