Miilux OY expands capabilities in submarine-grade steel production

Miilux OY, Turkey’s only armor steel producer, has reached a new milestone by developing the capability to manufacture submarine hull steel in profile form using entirely domestic resources. This achievement follows its earlier success in producing submarine steel in sheet form.

According to Yavuz Yeldan, General Manager of Miilux OY Turkey, this advancement positions Turkey among the few countries capable of producing submarine steel. It also marks a strategic step in strengthening the country’s self-sufficiency in defense manufacturing, especially through Miilux’s production facilities in Manisa.

Yeldan explained that constructing a submarine hull requires both plate and profile steel to ensure structural integrity. With this development, Miilux OY can now produce all steel components required for submarine hulls domestically.

The submarine-grade steels are expected to be used in MILDEN, Turkey’s National Submarine Project. Testing and validation processes for the materials are currently underway.

Yeldan also highlighted the company’s growing capabilities in armor steel production, supported by significant R&D investment. Miilux OY now offers armor solutions for a wide range of land vehicles, including main battle tanks. Tests for products with thicknesses exceeding 50 mm have been successfully completed at internationally accredited facilities.

In 2024, the company made its first export of heat-treated high-strength steel to Azerbaijan and plans to expand into other markets this year. Miilux aims to grow its global footprint, particularly in Europe and neighboring regions, with ongoing efforts to deliver advanced armor steel solutions worldwide.

Oyak Group’s subsidiary, Miilux OY’s plant in Manisa have heat treatment and quenching line, cold straightening line, tempering furnace, sandblasting-painting and laser cutting machines. The plant’s annual production capacity is 38,000 tons.
