Ministry plans steel pipe plant for water projects in Quweira Industrial Zone

Jordan’s Ministry of Water and Irrigation has announced plans to establish a USD 125 mln steel pipe manufacturing facility through a US-Indian joint venture, aimed at supporting the National Water Carrier Project and other strategic infrastructure developments, according to local media reports.

The plant will be located in the Quweira Industrial Zone within the Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZA).

The facility is expected to produce around 500,000 tons per year of steel pipes, serving both domestic demand and export markets. It will also supply pipes for the Risha gas project, the ministry said.

The National Water Carrier Project, the largest water infrastructure initiative in Jordan, will transport desalinated water from Aqaba to Amman and other regions through a 450 km pipeline, with expected supply of 200-250 mln cubic metres annually, supporting around 4 mln people.

While the reports do not explicitly mention the company involved, Indian pipe manufacturers with a presence in both India and the US could be potential participants. In this context, Jindal SAW Ltd. had previously announced plans in 2017 to establish a pipe manufacturing facility in southern Jordan, although no official confirmation has been provided linking it to the current investment.
