MMK-METIZ expands coated wire range for cable industry

Russian metal products producer MMK-METIZ has expanded its range of high-strength STAP reinforcing wire with zinc-aluminum (ZnAl) coating for cable industry applications.

The STAP reinforcing wire, used in optical, power, and control cable production, is manufactured in accordance with GOST 9850-72 standards and is now available for commercial supply.

According to the company, the expanded size range will allow cable manufacturers to optimize product design, improve strength characteristics, and reduce production costs.

MMK-METIZ stated that the ZnAl coating offers improved corrosion resistance and stronger adhesion compared with conventional galvanized coatings, extending the service life of cable products under high humidity, temperature fluctuations, and mechanical stress conditions.

The company added that the product development supports Russia’s import substitution efforts in the high-tech metal products segment.

MMK-METIZ (Magnitogorsk Hardware and Calibration Plant) is one of Russia’s top three hardware manufacturers, operating as a core subsidiary of the MMK Group, manufacturing steel wire, fasteners, and other metal products.

MMK is a major Russian steel producer operating a fully integrated production chain, from iron ore preparation and coke production to the manufacture of downstream steel products. The company has an annual crude steel production capacity of around 14.5 mln tons per annum.
