German steelmaker MSW Moselstahlwerk has appointed KRUDO Industrial to market and sell its electric steelmaking facility in Trier as part of the company’s ongoing restructuring.
The sale comes as European steelmakers continue to face pressure from high energy costs, weak industrial demand and international competition. Electricity prices are a particular challenge for electric arc furnace (EAF) producers, adding pressure to the economics of electric steelmaking in Europe.
The facility includes a 60-ton Tenova Consteel electric arc furnace, secondary metallurgy equipment and a Danieli Centro Met three-strand billet caster. The melt shop has a stated annual capacity of around 560,000 tons of crude steel.
MSW’s Trier operation mainly produces wire rod and reinforcing steel products. KRUDO Industrial will market the facility internationally, targeting steel producers and investors looking to expand or establish electric steelmaking capacity. The facility is being offered for sale by private treaty, with inspections available to qualified buyers.
